Using a Nebulizer or Nasal Spray: Other Useful Tips
Other Useful Tips
- Some nasal sprays leave a bad taste when they extend through the throat. A drink of water or other liquid will remove the bad taste.
- No nasal sprays should be shared with others.
- The nasal spray decongestants should not be used over a week since that can cause congestion to come back (rebound congestion).
- DATE OF EXPIRY: never use the nasal spray after the expiration date as they may be contaminated with dirt or bacteria. Follow the instructions on the label. Enter the date you opened the nebulizer in the same bottle so you know when to get rid of it.
- Always keep medicines out of reach of children. Read the rest of this entry »
Using a Nebulizer or Nasal Spray
Nebulizers or nasal sprays are a solution or suspension of a drug that is sprayed into the nostrils to produce a local effect directly on the nose.

Congenital Infantile Glaucoma: Symptoms and Treatment
Why occurs?
Primary infantile glaucoma is caused by an abnormal fetal development of the angle structures of the eye, causing impaired drainage of aqueous humor and raising intraocular pressure. This in turn leads to damage to the optic nerve.
In addition, children under 3 years, which have a more elastic collagen tissue eye, elevated intraocular pressure causes an increase in the cornea and a strain, and increased thinning of the sclera or whites of the eyes layer. The underlying cause of the altered angle of the eye is not well understood. Read the rest of this entry »
Congenital Infantile Glaucoma

What is congenital infantile glaucoma?
Glaucoma refers to a group of eye diseases characterized by elevated intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eye). This increased pressure causes damage to the optic nerve and, consequently, loss of vision.
What are the symptoms?
The rash begins as a loss of peripheral vision, but if the glaucoma is not treated, may be a loss of central vision and even blindness.
In young children may appear also other eye problems such as refractive errors (myopia or hyperopia), astigmatism, strabismus and amblyopia. An early diagnosis and referral are essential to ensure optimal visual outcome. Read the rest of this entry »
Retinal Detachment: Normal Postoperative Course
What is the normal postoperative course?
The surgical anatomy allows repositioning of the retina in 80% of cases, although the visual recovery depends largely on each individual case, the type of release, time of evolution and the retina affected areas. The fact that the retina back into place to be applied does not mean that visual recovery is complete in most cases. The treatment failure rate is higher in old landslides in multiple tears and large or repetitive. In any case, early diagnosis and treatment are essential to the favorable evolution of the process.
Postoperative care is reduced to the instillation of eye drops and eye protection temporarily. At certain times depending on the type of surgery is necessary to maintain a particular posture of the head in the immediate postoperative period to facilitate the reattachment of the retina. The activity is reduced for a limited period to be determined by the ophthalmologist. Read the rest of this entry »
How is Retinal Detachment?
How ophthalmologist diagnosed a retinal detachment?
It is usually diagnosed based on symptoms and signs described and the eye exam. The fundamental fact is a fundus examination with a device called an ophthalmoscope, which lets you see the detachment and retinal tears or responsible.
All patients with retinal detachment should be explored urgently by an ophthalmologist.
The ophthalmologist will also examine carefully the other eye, in search of degenerative lesions of the retina need to be treated with laser to prevent the other eye on a new retinal detachment. Read the rest of this entry »
Retinal Detachment: Causes and Symptoms
What causes retinal detachment?
The most common cause of retinal detachment is a spontaneous retinal tear, detachment secondary to posterior vitreous.
In other cases, retinal detachment is caused by other processes of the eye such as tumors, severe inflammation or complications of diabetes.
What are the symptoms of retinal detachment?
Visual symptoms suspected retinal detachment usually appear on:
- Impression of floaters (black dots that move to move the eye) or perception of a ring, which translate the changes of the vitreous.
- Light flashes. It is a symptom of greater importance than before. Translate the existence of traction on the retina and often appear when a tear has occurred. Read the rest of this entry »
Retinal Detachment

What is retinal detachment?
Retinal detachment is an abnormal separation between two of the two layers that make up the retina pigment epithelium (outer layer of the retina) and the sensory retina (inner layer of the retina), which is interposed between a liquid.
If untreated, retinal detachment leads to total loss of function of the eye (blindness).
Retinal detachment occurs as a complication of one or more peripheral retinal tears. These tears are caused by vitreous traction on a fragile area, predisposed, the retina, and allow the intraocular fluid to penetrate between the layers of the retina, separating the outer layer of the inner. Diagnosis of Ocular Foreign Body
How does the doctor make the diagnosis?
Superficial foreign bodies
If you tell your doctor has noticed that something was entering the eye, examine your eye using a fluorescein dye for easy detection of foreign material on the ocular surface. You have to flip the lid to examine its underside and remove any foreign matter from the surface. You can remove the foreign body with a cotton swab, but sometimes you have to use a small needle to remove any particles embedded in the eye. This maneuver is performed with local anesthetic drops and painless.
Penetrating foreign bodies
If you respect your doctor has probably suffered an eye injury while performing a high-risk, then the eye will be explored in the greatest detail. It will examine your vision, you may be affected. The shape of the pupil may be distorted and there is blood in the eye. If the foreign body hits the lens, there may be early signs of a cataract. When suspected intraocular foreign bodies may be necessary to perform an X-ray or scanner. Read the rest of this entry »
Ocular Foreign Body
What is an ocular foreign body?
Any material entering the eye such as dust, sand painting is known as ocular foreign body. They fall into two basic categories:
- Superficial foreign bodies: stick to the surface of the eye or trapped under a lid, but do not penetrate the eye.
- Penetrating foreign bodies, pass through the outer layer of the eye (cornea or sclera) and enter inside. They are usually metal objects moving at high speed.
How come foreign bodies in the eye?
The non-perforating superficial foreign bodies tend to fall or are pushed by air. For example, when working under a car, or while outside on a windy day. Read the rest of this entry »
Banking Your Cord Blood is the Best Protection You Could Ever Give
What is the most important thing to you? As for many people, protecting their family is the best answer. Your family is always there to cherish, encourage, and assist you each time you face down time. Now, it is your chance to give back and protect them. Medical world offers you the opportunity to save the family once you understand how important it is to save the cord blood.
Cord Blood is the type of blood derived from the umbilical cord. These days, the use of the blood has increased rapidly and out there, there are about 20,000 people who have been cured by this cord blood. When you give birth, there will be the baby, placenta, and umbilical cord. The last two things provide the blood that is rich of stem cells. Stem cells are known as the growth cells, and they play an important role when blood disease attacks you or your child.
Usually, the stem cells can only be used to them with the bloodlines, so whether you notice it or not, your family and other relatives with close blood lines can rely on you once you save the cord blood over the special bank. It will be kept inside a sterilized plastic bag and will last for years, until one of your families really needs the cells for regenerative medicine and treatment.
Technique of Corneal Topography

The corneal topographer, Cedillo says Fernandez, is an instrument that is based on the technique of Placid rings, created about a hundred years. This procedure consists of observing the reflection of a series of perfectly circular disk on the cornea, where it has astigmatism, the image you see is oval or distorted lines, so it follows that its surface is not regular and in one eye healthy, that preserves the circular image.
Thus, the first step to obtain a computed topography is to capture an image of the cornea, which is reflected in a set of concentric circles projected measuring device. Then the data are digitized and interpreted with the aid of a computer. Read the rest of this entry »
Various Functions of Corneal Topography
Dr. Cedillo Fernández stated that anyone who wishes to know the status of your cornea can be a candidate for this type of evaluation, which is done in Mexico since 1991, however, there are cases where it is particularly useful:
Astigmatism. Lets see if the pattern of deformation, and diagnosed, it is symmetrical or irregular.
Contact lens wearers. After using for a long time, these optical instruments, corneal mapping shows whether adjustment is needed in them.
Refractive surgery candidates. This laser surgery helps to correct defects such as astigmatism, myopia (difficulty seeing far away) and farsightedness (inability to distinguish nearby objects), but before it is carried out should exclude the presence of ectatic disease (weight loss), as in such cases, refractive surgery may worsen the condition of the eyeballs. Corneal Topography (I)
Ophthalmologic care has benefited greatly with the creation of this system, which is very useful to know the status of the cornea before and after performing surgery to correct nearsightedness, cataracts or remove the transplanted tissue.
While humans need their five senses to understand the world around him, the favorite for most people is certainly the view, as it allows easy to read information about color, shape, size , distance, position and movement of people, living beings or objects, both in proximity and distance.
