Dental Injuries: What to Do?
How can you help the dentist?
Sometimes you can make the tooth reimplantation if you follow these steps:
- Obtain a dentist urgently
- The bone surrounding the tooth (alveolus) is not heavily damaged
- The patient’s general condition permits.
Baby teeth should not be reimplanted because it could damage the permanent tooth beneath, in the case and a piece that will eventually be replaced by a permanent tooth (we have natural turnover).
If the gum around the tooth is damaged (injury), may be necessary for the dentist or oral surgeon have to give stitches.
When what has occurred is a breakdown of the tooth, the dentist can rebuild it using the loose fragment, or by filling a similar color to the damaged tooth.You need to place a device that helps to immobilize the replanted teeth or moving after the impact, for that the dentist places a splint that keeps mobile teeth replanted to neighboring teeth that remain firm, for a time variable.
If there are wounds in the oral cavity or other locations, you may need antibiotics, and in selected cases vaccine or tetanus booster.
The dentist should regularly check the state rebuilt or replanted tooth by clinical examination and radiographs, in the case of sutured wounds have the stitches removed in approximately 7-10 days.
